Chestatee's Clark runs way to Jaycees Player of the Week (Video)

GAINESVILLE -- Quan Clark is not a bruiser. The Chestatee running back is not the type of player that "rumbles."

"I just like to get outside and take off," Clark says.

As anyone who saw Clark's performance on Friday will tell you, the War Eagle standout can "take off" with the best of them.

Clark launched himself into the record books in a 57-56, double overtime defeat of Eastside in Gainesville, as the running back exploded for 309 yards rushing and thee touchdowns. The astounding numbers broke a four-year old record held by former Chestatee standout Ben Souther and helped the War Eagles to a 2-1 record and a 1-0 start in their first season in Region 8-AAAA.

Perhaps most impressive were those touchdown runs -- as Clark averaged over 51 yards per scoring jaunt. He finished the first half with over 250 yards, all part of a staggering night of offensive performance for Chestatee -- which rolled up 616 total yards and more than 500 on the ground.

"The holes out there were huge," Clark said. "The offensive line did an incredible job."

For his efforts in Friday's win, Clark has been named the Gainesville Jaycees Player of the Week.

Earlier this week, Access North Georgia.com sports editor Morgan Lee caught up with Clark to talk about his big night, Chestatee football and the week ahead. To watch the video, simply click "play" below.

Clark and his teammates soaked up every minute of Friday's emotional roller-coaster ride and hope to use the victory to catapult themselves into playoff contention in 8-AAAA.

Yet the War Eagles also know that maintaining that momentum won't come easy -- certainly not this week, as Chestatee travels to Toccoa to face fifth-ranked Stephens County (4-0, 1-0 Region 8-AAAA) at "The Reservation."

The Indians also feature an imposing ground game, led by one of the standout backs in the state in senior Chaz Thornton, who has run for almost 700 yards through four wins.

Yet Clark and his teammates are relishing the challenge and are looking forward to testing themselves against one of the region -- and state's -- best.

Each week this football season the Jaycees will team with Jacobs Media to present a Player of the Week award. At the end of the season, the Jaycees will also present a Player of the Year award, as well as name a recipient of a $2,500 scholarship to the most deserving senior.
