Gainesville stomps Winder-Barrow flat, 69-0

WINDER -- Gainesville football made a dashing entrance into Region 8-AAAAA football on Friday, blitzing Winder-Barrow 69-0 in Winder.

The Red Elephants (2-1, 1-0 Region 8-AAAAA) led 62-0 at halftime and racked up 547 yards offense in the victory. Gainesville also held the Bulldoggs (0-3, 0-1) to just 12 yards of offense in sending Winder to its 27th straight defeat.

Red Elephants quarterback Deshaun Watson enjoyed a record night, passing for seven touchdowns and running for another, as he racked up 391 total yards of offense -- including a perfect 18-of-18 passing.

Rodney Lackey caught three of the touchdown strikes and finished with six receptions for 137 yards, while Tray Harrison caught four passes for 104 yards and two TDs. Caleb Hayman, Orrin Ragland also hauled in scoring receptions, as nine different players caught passes during the game, including three completions from back-up Mikey Gonzalez.

Gainesville's Jay Gaudlock led all rushers with 52 yards on 10 carries.

The Red Elephants will play host to Apalachee next Friday.

Winder-Barrow will travel to face Salem next Friday.
