Jefferson couple charged in suspicious death case

By Katie Crumley
JEFFERSON - A husband and wife have been charged in connection with a suspicious death at a home in the Hidden Lakes subdivision in Jefferson on Monday.

"During the investigation, the two people that were living in the house-- we found a variety of drugs and drug paraphernalia in the house-- they were arrested," said Jefferson Police Chief Joseph Wirthman.

Wirthman said 32-year-old Edward Watson Clary, Junior and 26-year-old Kayla Marie Clary are being held at the Jackson County Jail on drug charges and child cruelty charges.

"Hydrocodone, oxycodone, methadone, marijuana... a lot of drugs were in the house," he said.

Wirthman said the large amount of drugs in the home, where the couple's six month old and six year old children also lived, led to the child cruelty charges.

He said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of the person who died.

Wirthman said that person's identity, relationship to the Clarys and cause of death are not being released.
