Dick's Sporting Goods launches Lakeshore redevelopment

By B.J. Williams
GAINESVILLE - In what management is calling the first part of a redevelopment plan for Gainesville's Lakeshore Mall, sports retailer Dick's Sporting Goods will be opening a large store at the mall next fall.

Marketing Manager Kirsten Boettcher said the store will be situated in an area between Sears and J.C. Penney.

"It will eliminate the issue that we've always had where J.C. Penney kind of cuts the mall in half," said Boettcher. "Some people aren't even aware when they walk in one side [of J.C. Penney] that there's a whole group of stores on the other side."

Boettcher said the stores that currently occupy that area will move to new spaces on the other side of J.C. Penney. That move will take place this fall as construction on the 50,475-square-foot Dick's store gets underway.

The Dick's Sporting Goods store will be the first in Hall County, according to mall management.

In addition, Boettcher said that shoppers can expect to see some changes at one of the mall's anchor stores by October 10 of this year. She said the Belk Ladies store will unveil an expanded fragrance department and new cosmetic counters for Lancome, Estee Lauder and Clinique. Plus, the store is adding a Michael Kors handbag shop.
