Still no sign of Lake Lanier drowning victim

GAINESVILLE - Although the search for a Cobb County man presumed drowned in Lake Lanier has slipped out of news headlines recently, that doesn't mean crews have stopped looking for him.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources Sgt. Lee Brown said they're still doing daily surface searches for 44-year-old Jeffrey Nause.

"No divers, it's just us going out there and combing the area to see if we can spot him or anything else," said Brown.

Brown said they'll continue those searches at least through the weekend.

Authorities said Nause jumped out of a moving sailboat just after midnight on Aug. 18 near Lake Lanier Islands and never resurfaced.

The operation was scaled back about a week ago when divers were released from the search until sonar or surface searches warranted their return.

At the height of the search, agencies involved included the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (law enforcement and aviation divisions), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 29, Hall County Fire Services, Dawson County EMS (cadaver dogs), and Forsyth County Fire Services.
