New White County Detention Center prepares for opening

CLEVELAND - White County Sheriff's Office and Detention officials are preparing for the public's first visit to their newly constructed facility. The 176 bed, 40-thousand square foot center is located on Hulsey Road north of Cleveland.

Thursday evening White County Sheriff Neal Walden and his staff hosted the White County Chamber of Commerce's 'Business Contact' meeting.

Walden said the general public is encouraged to tour the new facility this Sunday.

"I think everybody is in for an eye-opening to what this building consists of. Yeah, it cost a lot of money, but our one percent sales tax is what is paying for the thing, so I encourage everybody to come look see what that one cent is paying for," Walden said.

The dedication and open house will be held at 3:00 PM this Sunday.

Walden said the public will get a chance to see the facility first hand, and that the new center was designed with future expansion in mind.

According to Walden they are now waiting for sewer line hookup, and that his department hopes to officially move in sometime around the second week in May.
