SUWANEE- Charges have been filed against a Gainesville man in connection with a fatal wreck Friday morning on I-85 northbound at the I-985 split.

A police report filed in Gwinnett County indicated that Henry J. Saravia, 25, of Meadowridge Drive in Gainesville is being held without bond on charges of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and driving without a valid license, among other charges.

The report showed that Saravia was driving northbound on I-85 near the I-985 split in Suwanee when the single-vehicle crash happened around 4:30 a.m. Friday. Investigators said Saravia lost control of the vehicle he was driving, hit a concrete median and swerved back into the highway, eventually striking a guardrail, causing the car to overturn.

Saravia and a female passengar in the car, 20-year-old Maria Diosdado, also of Gainesville, fled the scene and hid in nearby woods, according to investigators.

Another passenger in the vehicle, 19-year-old Felipe Vilchis of Gainesville, suffered critical injuries in the accident and later died at Gwinnett Medical Center.
