Herschel Walker planning on opening restaurant in Norcross

By The Associated Press
NORCROSS -- Legendary Georgia football player Herschel Walker is announcing plans to open a restaurant and sports bar at a proposed $1 billion gambling complex in Norcross.

Walker and developer Dan O'Leary say Thursday the restaurant would feature memorabilia from Walker's career at University of Georgia and in the NFL.

It's the first business to sign on with O'Leary's project, which would include 7,500 video lottery terminals, a hotel, spa, theater and other restaurants.

O'Leary says it could generate $350 million each year for the Hope scholarship program and create 2,500 jobs. It must be approved by the Georgia Lottery Board and the Gwinnett County Commission, but O'Leary's supporters say it wouldn't need legislative approval.

Walker says the restaurant would "combine my entrepreneurial focus with my desire to sustain the Hope scholarship."
