Sun Trust on Thompson Bridge Road robbed at gunpoint

GAINESVILLE - The Sun Trust Bank at 1430 Thompson Bridge Rd. was robbed at gunpoint shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday. No one was injured in the incident.

Cpl. Joe Britte of the Gainesville Police Department said two white males, both believed to be in their late 40s, entered the bank and demanded cash. One of the men was armed with an assault rifle, according to authorities at the scene. The two men then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and in an unknown direction.

One man was described as 6-2, 200 pounds, while the other was described as 5-11, 185.

Shortly after the robbery, a police helicopter hovered overhead the site of the incident and a K-9 unit was on scene attempting to pick up the men's scents.
