Retired Gainesville businessman, theater group fixture dies

GAINESVILLE - A retired Gainesville businessman, who was a fixture with the Georgia Mountain Players for the past 20 years, has died.

Charles Robocker died Tuesday at the age of 77 the Bell Minor Home following a battle with cancer.

Robocker worked in the hardware business all of his life, first with Paris Dunlap Hardware in Gainesville, then, as owner of Britt Martin Hardware, and finally retiring from Chromate Industrial Hardware in 2006.

He was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church on Washington Street, where he had served in many leadership positions over the years and where he taught Sunday School Classes. Robocker was well known as a greeter to patrons of the church's First Monday Cafe Soup Day.

He and his wife Jene had been a part of the Georgia Mountain Players for the past 20 years. He handled the box office duties for the group until his health prevented it.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church.
