Boys basketball: Johnson moves to 2-0 with home win

OAKWOOD -- The Johnson boys basketball team defeated Providence Christian 82-67 tonight in the Johnson Tipoff Classic in Oakwood.

The Knights took a 14-10 lead after the first quarter, and extended the lead to 35-25 at halftime. Johnson continued to extend the lead to 54-37 headed into the fourth quarter. Johnson (2-0) led by as many as 24 in the fourth quarter.

Johnson had 10 players score, including five players in double-figures. Montrell McKenzie led the way with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Carter Cagle scored 15. Ty Cockfield added 14 points, Drew Dunham scored 12, and Roderick English pitched in 11.

Providence Christian was led by Steve Kleinschmidt with 24 points. Duncan Gotfredson scored 11.

Johnson returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against Cass at Johnson.
