Chemical spill prompts hotel evacuation

By The Associated Press
MARIETTA - Police in Marietta said they've evacuated a hotel as thousands of pounds of a chemical were leaking from an overturned truck on a nearby street.

Marietta Police spokesman David Baldwin said no injuries were reported.

Baldwin said the truck overturned Monday afternoon in an area near Cobb Parkway and Industrial Park Drive.

Baldwin said nearly 50,000 pounds of Sodium Hydroxide, a liquid chemical, was leaking from the overturned truck. He said the Hometown Inn was evacuated.

Police said Cobb Parkway was shut down from Bells Ferry Road to Allgood Road in both directions. Baldwin said the road closure was expected to last into Monday evening.
