Girls basketball: Chestatee opens with win over Franklin

JEFFERSON -- Chestatee used a 19-5 second quarter to erase an early deficit and then hung on in the second half to beat Franklin County 47-42 Saturday in the Jefferson Tip-off Tournament.

It was the season-opener for both teams.

Chestatee (1-0) trailed 14-11 after the first quarter but took a 30-19 lead into halftime. Franklin County cut the lead to 37-34 in the third quarter but the Lady War Eagles, behind Sam Brown, held on down the stretch.

Brown finished with 17 points and five rebounds to lead Chestatee. Erin Clifford added nine points and Maegan Kenimer had seven points and nine rebounds for the Lady War Eagles.
