Early deficit too much for Chestatee in playoff loss

By staff
GAINESVILLE -- Chestatee ran its way to 562 yards of offense, but turnovers doomed the War Eagles in their first ever home playoff game, as they fell to LaGrange 59-46 on Friday in Gainesville.

Chestatee (8-3) gave up three fumbles and three interceptions to the Grangers (6-5), who also forced three turnovers on downs to help bring the War Eagles' historic season to an end.

The giveaways, combined with a scoreless second quarter proved too much for Chestatee, which got 221 yards rushing and four touchdowns from Quan Clark.

Quarterback Jordan DeGraff also completed 9 of 18 passes for 227 yards and a score, but LaGrange edged ahead 20-15 in the first quarter and took a 34-15 advantage into the interval courtesy a 14-0 second quarter.

The Grangers finished with 509 yards of offense, including 276 yards rushing. Benny Gray (169 yards) and Demonton Boyd (112 yards) took turns putting up big plays -- including two interception returns for scores from Boyd.

LaGrange quarterback Zach Giddens also completed 14 of 22 passes for 233 yards and a touchdown.

Chestatee battled hard in the second half, but LaGrange answered each War Eagle score to keep in front.

Chestatee wrapped up a season that saw the War Eagles set records for wins in a campaign, longest winning streak and host their first ever home playoff contest.
