Kleinlein named next Georgia Southern AD

By The Associated Press
STATESBORO -- Officials at Georgia Southern University say Tom Kleinlein will be the school's next athletic director.

The Statesboro Herald reports ( http://bit.ly/RytmRz ) Kleinlein will join Georgia Southern from Kent State University in Ohio, where he was serving as deputy athletic director.

Georgia Southern President Brooks Keel made the announcement Monday, saying Kleinlein "brings a great deal of experience and enthusiasm." Keel emphasized Kleinlein not only understands the competitive and business aspects of managing a growing athletics department but also a focus on academics.

Kleinlein promised "the tradition and success that Georgia Southern has become so well known for will serve as the foundation as we build for the future."

Kleinlein replaces Sam Baker, who is resigning after 17 years as director of athletics.
