Suspect arrested in hit and run injury of officer

NORCROSS - Gwinnett County Police have arrested a Meadowcreek High School student accused in the hit and run injury of a school resource officer.

17 year old Jarvis Ruff faces several charges, including hit and run, following the incident late Thursday morning. Police said other charges include driving without a driver's license, improper lane change, speeding, reckless driving and failure to report striking a fixed object.

According to police, the officer was in a foot chase with another suspect following an incident at the school. He was struck when crossing the street at Steve Reynolds Blvd. and Windward Lane, about 100 yards from school property.

Buff was arrested after he wrecked his vehicle and ran on foot, according to police.

Fox 5 reported the officer's name as Chuck McCallum. They report he suffered non life threatening injuries.
