Laurel Park hosts 'Hawgin' on Lanier' this weekend

By Staff
GAINESVILLE - Hall County's Laurel Park will play host this weekend to the first "Hawgin' on Lanier," a sanctioned KCBS (Kansas City Barbeque Society) and GBC (Georgia BBQ Championship) State Championship BBQ Competition presented by the Gainesville Jaycees.

The event will feature over 41 competitive barbecue teams, including some of the most visible crews in the nation like Jack's Old South -- which has been featured on numerous television shows -- and Wicked Q. Some teams have traveled as far as Maryland and Illinois to compete at this weekend's event.

In addition to the barbecue competition, there will be music, arts and crafts vendors, a cornhole tournament, a car show, inflatables for kids, a petting zoo, pony rides and plenty of food.

The event begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and continues until 5 p.m.
