Week 7: Blowouts the name of the game for many teams

By Morgan Lee Sports Editor
Week 7 of the high school football season was marked by big scorelines and big victories, as very few contests went down to the wire.

Gainesville and Flowery Branch continued to flex their muscles in Region 8-AAAAA, slamming Salem and Winder-Barrow, respectively. Their wins, coombined with Heritage's (Conyers) defeat of Clarke Central left the Red Elephants and Falcons as the only two teams in 8-AAAAA with perfect league records.

Region 7-AAA also showed, once again, that North Hall and Buford are at the top of their respective games, as the Trojans battered Fannin County, 63-0, and the Wolves carved up White County 49-14. The two foes are looking more and more likely to play for the 7-AAA title on the last day of the regular season.

In Tiger, Jefferson took total control of Region 8-AA, sprinting away from Rabun County in the second half of a 55-7 victory. The Dragons led just 13-7 at the interval. Union County also kept pace in the 8-AA playoff hunt, keeping Riverside winless on 2012, 41-13.

Chestatee also kept up its winning ways, claiming its fifth straight victory by throttling Walnut Grove 51-0. The War Eagles kept pace with Monroe Area, which stayed undefeated in a comeback win over Stephens County in Monroe, 21-17. Lumpkin County also earned its second straight win and second in 8-AAAA, 34-20 over winless Madison County.

In Region 7-AAAAAA, Habersham Central earned its first win of the campaign, brushing off Meeadowcreek 31-12 to hand the Mustangs their 44th straight loss. North Gwinnett also fended off Mill Creek 47-28 in Hoschton.

Lakeview Academy also got in on the act, hammering Cross Keys 44-6.

Elsewhere, Commerce slid to its third straight loss, while Apalachee bounced back to edge Loganville, and Alpharetta handled North Forsyth.
