Softball: Jackson County wins 8-AAA tourney

The Jackson County softball team edged Franklin County 3-1 to claim the Region 8-AAA championship.

Lady Panthers sophomore, Peyton Sorrells pitched six strong innings, scattering six hits and allowing only one run to score, while freshman, Shelton Kendrix earned her first career save with a scoreless seventh.

Senior Victoria Fontana led the way for the Panthers by legging out two infield singles, scoring a run and driving in one run. Junior Mason Garland drove in Fontana in the fifth inning. Freshman Madi Pecht and junior Victoria Woods scored the other two runs for the Panthers.

The Panthers will begin state tournament play with a best-of-three first round series Cartersville. A doubleheader will take place on Wednesday with an "if" scheduled for Thursday.
