GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville State College (GSC) student has been awarded a scholarship from the Pilot Club of Oconee County.

Mary Ellen DiMauro of Watkinsville is the first recipient of the Helen Parrish scholarship awarded through GSC.

DiMauro is a graduate of Westminster Christian Academy in Watkinsville with a history of community involvement and service.

The Pilot Club of Oconee County established the Helen Parrish Scholarship in honor of the first president of the club. This fall, it has partnered with GSC to award the Helen Parrish Scholarship to an entering student on the Oconee Campus.

"I am so excited about the fact that this this scholarship is specifically for a GSC Oconee Campus student," said Dr. Margaret Venable, Vice President and CEO of the Oconee Campus. "This is significant to the community."

Members of the club recently visited the Oconee Campus to make the presentation to DiMauro.
