Man sentenced in Gwinnett Co. bribery scheme arrested again

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - A former Gwinnett County zoning board member who was sentenced to prison last month has been arrested after authorities say he had an altercation with his wife.

Published reports say John Fanning was arrested early Friday.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department says Fanning was involved in a fight with his wife at a home on Bold Springs Road. Fanning is accused of hitting his wife with a table and table leg in the presence of children, preventing her from calling for help.

Fanning faces charges of false imprisonment, aggravated assault, cruelty to children and interfering with a call for emergency assistance.

Fanning, the son of former Gwinnett County commissioner Shirley Lasseter, was sentenced last month to nearly five years in prison stemming from a bribery charge.
