Most Gainesville roads re-open after Monday night flooding

GAINESVILLE - Monday's heavy rains brought forth localized flooding resulting in the shut down of several roadways in Hall County.

According to Gainesville Police Corporal Kevin Holbrook, Martin Luther King Boulevard, Dorsey Street and Limestone Parkway are closed. Jesse Jewell Parkway in the area of West Academy Street was closed for a time, but has since reopened.

"If you do happen to notice standing water in the roadway, please do not take any chances in attempts to cross the roadway as there are currently a number of vehicles that have stalled due to water in the roadway," Holbrook said.

Downed trees and power lines caused the closure of Gaines Mill Road at Heritage Glen as well as Tommy Aaron Drive, but of which have since reopened.

According to the AccessNorthGa.com weather page, as of 11 p.m. Monday, 3.71 inches of rain had fallen since midnight and .23 inches was falling an hour.
