By Katie Crumley
DEMOREST - State Representative Rick Austin filed paperwork Thursday to run in the special election for the seat to be vacated by Jim Butterworth when he assumes his recently appointed position with the Georgia National Guard.

Austin, a Republican from Habersham County, will resign from the state House when Butterworth's resignation becomes effective October 2nd.

The special election for State Senate District 50 is expected to be held at the same time as the general election in November.
