CLEVELAND - Some changes are coming to a few of White County's voting districts as a result of the 2010 Census.
The White County Board of Commissioners (BOC), following the direction of Elections Supt. Garrison Baker, has scheduled a public hearing on the changes for Monday December 19 at 5:00 in the Grand Jury Room of the county courthouse.
Baker says there are two main objectives that redistricting will address.
One is the population changes in the county since the 2000 Census. The other is to put school board member Charlie Thomas back in his district.
"When they originally created these districts they 'districted' him out of his district, school board district."
The commission board will be holding a called meeting following the public hearing to consider adopting a resolution requesting the State Legislature approve the reapportionment of the White County Board of Commissioners / Board of Education district maps.
The proposed district map is available for public viewing at the White County Board of Commissioners Office or online www.whitecounty.net.
