Auditors give White Co. clear report

By Dean Dyer/WRWH, Ken Stanford
CLEVELAND - White County's finances have received a clean bill of health from the county auditor.

Chris Hollifield with Rushton and Company told county commissioners earlier this week, compared to some surrounding counties, White County is doing very well.

County Commission Chairman Travis Turner said commissioners have been working for some time to keep expenses down and build a reserve fund for any unforeseen expense. Turner added, however, they do want to watch and not build that reserve too high.

"We want to be very careful, we don't want to have so much in reserve that the county looks like a profit entity. That is not the purpose. But, I think the residents of the county can rest assured that we are doing our best and being diligent with the funds that (we) have been entrusted to serve with."

Turner says the five-month reservce will be helpful when commissioners start on next year's budget planning. He admits there could be more cuts to the budget in looking for ways to keep a positive financial picture.
