City-by-city election results

UNDATED - Here is a glance at city-by-city election results from Tuesday's balloting in the Gainesville area.


*A veteran Demorest City Councilman retained his seat. John Popham Sr. received 46 percent of the votes. Donnie Bennett, who received 34 percent of the votes, also will join the council.

In the Demorest Special Election to fill the seat vacated by Bruce Harkness, Jerry Harkness Jr. was the top vote-getter.

And, in Alto, Mayor Audrey Turner was returned to office.

*Longtime Gainesville City Councilman Bob Hamrick has won re-election... getting 57 percent of the vote in his race with political newcomer Debra Harkrider.

*In Flowery Branch, councilman Chris Fetterman was re-elected but incumbent Amanda Swafford lost her re-election bid to Damon Gibbs.

*In Clermont, city council incumbents John Brady and Seth Weaver were re-elected along with Debra Armour.

*In Dahlonega, Bruce Hoffman defeated incumbent city councilman Michael Clemons, incumbent Stan Norton was returned to office, and councilman Terry Peters was re-elected.

*In Cleveland, incumbent councilman Rush Mauney was re-elected as was councilwoman Annie Sutton.

*In Helen, councilwoman Donna K. Burke was re-elected.

*In Suwanee, Jimmy Burnette was elected mayor and Doug Ireland won a seat on the city council.

*Winder Mayor Chip Thompson was defeated by David Maynard; Lamar Larry Evans was elected to the city council; councilman Charles F. Eberhart was re-elected.
