Four lanes open on Atlanta Highway

GAINESVILLE - The Georgia Department of Transportation has finished paving four new lanes of Atlanta Highway in south Hall County, moving the project quickly toward its finish.

DOT spokesperson Teri Pope said Thursday that crews were able to open four lanes of Atlanta Highway, two in each direction, from Frontage Road to just south of Mundy Mill.

"This will get you to Johnson High School, Gainesville State College, Lanier Technical College," said Pope. "It's going to help you get wherever you're going in south Hall a lot easier."

Six lanes of Mundy Mill Road in the same area are open, as well.

Pope said that while the completion date for the project is December 2009, it is possible work could be finished before that time, since crews are working ahead of schedule.
