By staff reports
ATHENS -- Nine Georgia football players have been selected to be on the 2009 Southeastern Conference Coaches Preseason All-SEC team, according to an announcement from the league office on Thursday.

The Bulldogs are tied with Alabama with the third-most players selected to the team behind Florida (16) and LSU (10).

Sophomore flanker A.J. Green highlighted the group of Georgia players on the team by being one of only two sophomores named to the first team offense or first team defense. Junior linebacker Rennie Curran was also named to the first team defense for the Bulldogs.

Bulldogs earning second-team selections were junior offensive lineman Clint Boling and sophomore offensive lineman Cordy Glenn, while senior defensive tackle Geno Atkins and senior defensive back Prince Miller were named to the second team defense.

Senior Jeff Owens joined junior safety Reshad Jones on the third team defense, as sophomore Trinton Sturdivant earned a spot on the third team offense.

Of the 82 student-athletes named to either the first, second or third teams, Green, Glenn and Sturdivant were three of the only 10 sophomores chosen.

This is the sixth year of the SEC Coaches Pre-Season All-SEC team. It is released in advance of the 2009 SEC Football Media Days, which will be held July 21-23 in Hoover, Ala. Georgia will be represented at the event by head coach Mark Richt, senior quarterback Joe Cox and Owens. Media in attendance at SEC Football Media Days will vote on the All-SEC Team and a predicted order of finish for the league.
