Gainesville's Carnes signs with Wake

GAINESVILLE -- Gainesville High girls basketball star Jaymee Carnes realized a lifelong dream on Wednesday when she signed a letter of intent to play for Wake Forest.

The senior wing/post picked the Demon Deacons over Virginia Tech.

Carnes was named All-State for the second consecutive year last season and was also named All-Metro by the Atlanta tip off club for second straight year, as she helped lead the Lady Red Elephants to the Region 7-AAA title and a 13th straight state playoff appearance (the third longest suck streak in Georgia).

Carnes' signing was one of a number of athletes around the area this week, including Lakeview Academy's first-ever Division I signees -- baseball players Ralston Cash (Georgia) and Brett Armour (Wake Forest). Buford's Alysha Rudnik also signed to play softball with Georgia Tech, and North Hall's Landry Haynes will sign to play golf with the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Thursday.
