FLOWERY BRANCH -- The Gainesville, Johnson, West Hall and North Hall boys' tennis teams each secured a spot in the state playoffs with wins on Wednesday in the Region 7-AAA Tournament at the Bobby Bailey Tennis Center.
The Red Elephants swept past Lumpkin County 3-0 in the tournament quarterfinals to secure its Class AAA tournament spot.
Meanwhile, Johnson beat Gilmer 4-0 behind a doubles sweep and singles wins from Seth Hester and Brandon Sloan.
West Hall also blanked White County 4-0 in the quarterfinals. The win followed a 4-0 defeat of Pickens in the first round. The Spartans won every match but No. 1 singles in each round.
Meanwhile, North Hall defeated Flowery Branch 3-1.
Johnson and North Hall will play Thursday in one 7-AAA semifinal, while Gainesville and West Hall will meet up in the other. Each match is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. at the Bobby Bailey Tennis Center in Flowery Branch.
The winners will then play at 4 p.m. Thursday to decide the region championship, while the losers will play to determine playoff seeding.
