'An exciting time'

GAINESVILLE - The chairman of the Hall County Democratic Party - referring to the election of Barack Obama as the country's 44th president - says it was an "exciting time" Tuesday night "as the election returns rolled in."

Abb Hayes commented during an appearance on the Bill & Joel Morning Show on WDUN NEWS TALK 550.

"I just think it's an historic time," Hayes said, "one of the most historic moments, certainly, in my lifetime."

Hayes praised both John McCain and the president-elect on their calls for unity in the speeches they made early Tuesday after the race was decided.

He predicted the success Democrats had across the country Tuesday will trickle down the the local level.

"We'll have an easier time attracting candidates to run for office in two years and again in four years."
