Some counties not ready for Early Voting

By The Associated Press
UNDATED - Early Voting for the Dec. 2 runoffs in Georgia can begin Monday and while some counties are ready to go, others are not.

Elections officials in Forsyth and Gwinnett counties, for instance, said Thursday they are ready.

However, the head of elections in Hall County, Charlotte Sosebee-Hunter, said Thursday she had just signed off on the ballot and said it may be mid-week next week before Early Voting begins in Gainesville.

Early Voting will continue through next Friday, Nov 21. Advance Voting begins on Monday, Nov. 24 and continues for three days only this time around, until Wednesday, Nov. 26. There will be no Advance Voting on Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday, Nov. 28, because of Thanksgiving holidays. And, as usual, there will be no voting on the day before the election, Monday, Dec. 1.

With a hotly contested U.S. Senate race on the ballot and a state Public Service Commission race with local ties, Forsyth County Director of Elections Gary Smith is expecting a larger turnout than usual for state runoffs. Smith said he's expecting a turnout of "between 20 and 30 percent."

The local connection to the PSC race is Lauren "Bubba" McDonald, who, along with his son, Lauren McDonald III, owns McDonald and Son Funeral Home in Cumming.
There will also be a state Court of Appeals race on the statewide ballot.

Check with your county elections office for times and locations for Early and Advance voting.
