Top 25: North Carolina stays on top

The top six teams in this week's men's Associated Press top-25 college basketball poll are the same as in last week's poll. At the top of the list is North Carolina as the Tar Heels received 48 first place votes from the 72-member national media panel.

Second-ranked Memphis was given 19 first place ballots while number-three Kansas and fourth-ranked Texas each got two. Fifth-ranked Georgetown received the remaining first-place vote.

The second five in this week's poll features Duke, Washington State, UCLA, Michigan State and Marquette.

The next ten are Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Indiana, Texas A Clemson, Oregon, Xavier, Butler, Gonzaga and Vanderbilt.

The last five ranked schools are Arizona, Louisville, Villanova, Saint Mary's and BYU.

The appearance of St. Mary's means there are two West Coast Conference schools in the poll. The other is Gonzaga. The last time the Gaels were in the top-25 was back in the 1988-'89 season.
