May You Have A Very MERRY CHRISTMAS

By Gordon Sawyer 11/27/06
Let me start your day off with some good news... Christmas is back. If you will recall the past few Christmas seasons, those who worship at the altar of the Politically Correct have insisted we-the-people should NOT use the word Christmas. We should not refer to it as the Christmas Season for fear it would hurt the feelings of people who are Jewish, or Muslim or even atheists. To be politically correct, they insisted, we should talk about the holiday Season. We could talk about Jolly Old Saint Nick, or Santa Claus, because he comes from secular history and is not considered a religious symbol. But to use the term Christmas, the politically correct crowd said, was to promote one religion over another ... so we should not do that. The politically correct gang was making good headway, too, in getting businesses, some politicians, and people generally to quit using the term Christmas. Well, last year we little people, all over the United States, got fed up with this politically correct foolishness, Christmas is Christmas, you said. It is the birthday of Jesus Christ, and we are not going to kow-tow any longer to those who would take Christ out of Christmas. We got yard signs, looking like those political yard signs we have seen this fall, only the message on those signs was Merry Christmas. And people on talk radio, both hosts and people calling in, were saying Merry Christmas. But the biggest pressure point was achieved by people who told retailers they simply weren't going to trade with folks who were not willing to use the term Christmas. So now we enter Christmas Season 2006, and guess what ... some of America's biggest retailers are talking about the Christmas Season ... and you can find Christmas cards that say Merry Christmas, and right here at the beginning of the season I openly and unashamedly say: May You Have A Very Merry Christmas.

This is Gordon Sawyer and may the wind always be at your back.
