Divers locate missing Gwinnett Co. man

CUMMING - Divers recovered the body of a missing Gwinnett County man Thursday afternoon in Lake Lanier.

Roger Earl Taylor, 38, disappeared Sunday night from his houseboat which was anchored in a cove on the southern end of the lake.

Forsyth County Fire Captain Jason Shivers says they found the body close to Taylor's houseboat, "It was in the vicinity in that cove area that we've been searching in."

Shivers adds the area near Van's Tavern Park has heavy undergrowth and that hampered in the recovery.

Taylor was last heard from about 8:25 pm Sunday. His girlfriend Judy Moore says Taylor called her from his houseboat on a cove on Lake Lanier south of Vans Tavern Park, while she was driving to the boat slip.

Moore says when she arrived, the boat was still anchored in the lake.

Taylor's brother Sidney Taylor says one engine was running and Roger Taylor's cellphone was still on the bar.

Taylor owned Taylor's Collision, a chain of three auto repair shops in Gwinnett County.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Cherokee County Fire Department, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources worked with the Forsyth Dive Team in searching for the body.

No cause of death has been determined.
