NGHS files CONs for expansion projects

GAINESVILLE - Two Certificate of Need (CON) applications have been filed with the state Department of Community Health by Northeast Georgia Medical Center and Health System.

Spokeswoman Cathy Bowers says the CON applications were filed for construction of a new North Patient Tower and a new Women & Children's Pavilion.

"The construction of the tower is expected to be complete in 2010," Bowers said. "And, for Women and Children's Pavilion, it is projected to be complete in 2008."

Bowers says the Certificates of Need go through a 90 day review process, during which other health providers can voice their concerns.

"We are not expecting the type of opposition that we had when we filed for open heart/cardiovascular services."

"These projects represent the most ambitious expansion Northeast Georgia Health System has ever undertaken," says Jim Gardner, Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) President and CEO. "The growth our region has seen and is projected to experience in the future makes it critical for NGHS to modernize our facilities and upgrade the efficiency of services to meet the present and future healthcare needs of our community."
