UNDATED - The two suspects in the killing of a Pendergrass police officer Wednesday night, one of them a Hall County man, made their first court appearance Thursday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, GBI spokeswoman Vicki Metz-Vickery identified them as 26 year old Richard Whitaker of Flowery Branch and 18 year old Nolan Chauvin IV of Dacula. Metz says Whitaker is the suspect who was wounded in the leg during the shootout near Talmo but nevertheless managed to run from the scene.

"Whitaker was treated for an apparent gunshot injury," She said. "He fled the wreck scene on foot and was later arrested in an open field near the scene."

The second suspect 18 year old Nolan Chauvin IV, 18, Dacula was pulled from the wreckage of the pickup Chris Ruse had been chasing.

Both men are charged with felony murder and aggravated assault and are being held in the Jackson County jail.

During Thursday's brief court appearance in Jefferson, they were formally advised of the charges facing them.
