Red Wings 6, Thrashers 5, OT

<p>Henrik Zetterberg got the last chance in a back-and-forth game.</p><p>Zetterberg scored his second goal of the game 2:24 into overtime Wednesday night, lifting the Detroit Red Wings to a 6-5 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers.</p><p>Zetterberg also added an assist, and Brendan Shanahan, Ray Whitney and Mathieu Schneider each had a goal and an assist. Tomas Holmstrom scored the other Red Wings goals, and Pavel Datsyuk and Brett Hull each had two assists.</p><p>I guess you have the last scoring chance and something like that happens, Detroit coach Dave Lewis said.</p><p>Ilya Kovalchuk had a goal and two assists for Atlanta, which also got goals from Slava Kozlov, Ronald Petrovicky, Zdenek Blatny and Daniel Tjarnqvist.</p><p>I dont think it was our best game, Thrashers coach Bob Hartley said. But we kept coming back.</p><p>Zetterberg beat goaltender Pasi Nurminen with a high shot from the bottom of the left circle after taking a pass from Whitney on a two-on-one.</p><p>I saw him (Whitney) with the puck, so I just tried to beat my guy, Zetterberg said. I think he was tired. It was a great pass and I tried to shoot it as high as possible.</p><p>Atlanta tied it 5-5 with 7:02 remaining when Tjarnqvists shot from the point deflected in off the stick of Datsyuk and the leg of Detroit defenseman Jiri Fischer in a seesaw period in which both teams scored twice.</p><p>It was a strange night, Lewis said.</p><p>Each team scored three times in the second period. Detroit led 2-0 after the first 2:04.</p><p>Schneider shoveled in his own rebound 32 seconds in and Holmstrom put in his rebound just 1:32 later.</p><p>Kozlov put Atlanta on the board at 3:38 when he tipped in a shot by Patrik Stefan.</p><p>Pretty exciting game, Kozlov said. It was a big point for us to come back.</p><p>Whitney restored the Red Wings two-goal lead at 8:31 when he fired in a one-timed shot from the slot.</p><p>But Petrovicky closed the gap to 3-2 with 8:53 remaining in the period when he put a shot past Joseph from the bottom of the right circle as he was being pulled down by defenseman Jason Woolley.</p><p>Blatny tied it at 3 with his first NHL goal with 4:14 left.</p><p>It was not good that we let them be in the game again, Zetterberg said. They had some lucky goals, I think. But theyre dangerous, too.</p><p>Notes:@ Atlanta acquired forward Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre from Columbus for future considerations. ...
