Each Hall state legislative district draws candidates

ATLANTA - Each of the state house and senate districts in Hall County picked up at least one candidate as qualifying opened Wednesday for this year's elections.

Among the qualifiers yesterday, the dean of the Hall County state legislative delegation, James Mills and incumbents Clint Smith, and Casey Cagle, all Republicans, and Democrat Carl Rogers. Those are the candidates from the holdover districts in Hall County.

Democrat Suellen Simmons of Jefferson also qualified for Cagle's post; Republican incumbent State House member Amos Amerson of Dahlonega also qualified for the post now held by Smith.

Democrat Fred Pounds of Gainesville signed up for the new House District 21, along with Republicans Stacey Reece of Gainesville and Ty Talley, also of Gainesville.

Here is a complete list of the candidates for Hall Couny posts who qualified in Atlanta Wednesday:

Democrat: None.
Republican: Nathan Deal (I), 59, Clermont.

State Senate, District 45
Democrat: None.
Republican: Joyce Stevens, 56, Good Hope, businesswoman; Maria R. Strollo, 38, Buford, business consultant; Renee Stovall Unterman, 48, Loganville, nurse.

State Senate, District 47
Democrat: Robert D. Banks, 31, Canon, airport manager.
Republican: Ralph T. Hudgens, 59, Comer, investor.

State Senate, District 49
Democrat: Suellen Simmons, 53, Jefferson, unemployed.
Republican: Casey Cagle (I), 35, Gainesville, businessman.

State Senate, District 50
Democrat: Carol Jackson (I), 59, Cleveland, transportation.
Republican: None.

State House, District 9
Democrat: None.
Republican: Amos Amerson (I), 67, Dahlonega, retired; Clint Smith (I), 41, Gainesville, staffing services/writer.

State House, District 20
Democrat: Carl Rogers (I), 53, Gainesville, insurance agent.
Republican: None.

State House, District 21
Democrat: Fred Pounds, 76, Gainesville, retired lawyer.
Republican: Stacey Reece, 38, Gainesville, businessman; Ty Talley, 39, Gainesville, registered representative.
