GAINESVILLE - About 60 students will be able to take part in an after-school program at Gainesville Middle next year made possible by a $25,000 grant from North Georgia College and State University.
Christine Brosky, who coordinated the award, says its targeted at those already in language transition classes but with limited English proficiency. Tutors will work with them from three-to-five each afternoon after school.
There is also a family literacy component to the program. It offers parents the opportunity to learn about the materials their children are using in school.
Information about community assistance programs also will be provided to them.
There is no cost to the students. The NGCSU grant will cover all expenses.
The first group will begin the ten-week program in the fall. Another 30 students will take part in the spring.
