Georgia puts streak on line against No. 2 Pitt

ATHENS - Georgia wraps up its 11-game non-conference schedule Tuesday afternoon against Pittsburgh.

The Bulldogs come in at 7-3 and record riding a six-game winning streak.

Already the Bulldogs have matched the longest winning streak of the 22-10 season in 2002. The last time a Georgia team won seven games in succession was early in the 1996-97 season, the second and final campaign under coach Tubby Smith.

Only a miraculous 3-pointer saved them from starting the season at 1-4.

Most recently, they dispatched Wisconsin-Milwaukee - pre-season favorites in the Horizon League - 89-69 last Saturday in Athens.

In its past four games, reaching back to the Gonzaga game Dec. 15, Georgia has played some of its best offense of the Jim Harrick era.

In that streak, the Bulldogs have averaged over 94 points and 25 assists, shooting 52 percent from the field, 79 percent from the free throw line.

In addition, four different players have had team scoring honors.

One more number to consider during that streak: Georgia has outrebounded three of its last four opponents by double-digit margins.

At least part of that success can be attributed to the return of center Steve Thomas, who regained his eligibility in time to face South Alabama.
