Plenty of tickets available for Falcons-Packers playoff game

GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN - After the Green Bay Packers' loss in their regular-season finale Sunday resulted in the scheduling of a game Saturday night with the Atlanta Falcons, Monday was a busy day for ticket broker Frank Hickey.

But Hickey, owner of Fox River Tickets in De Pere, said many season-ticket holders were calling with hopes to sell rather than fans with plans to purchase.

``I think we've got a lot of speculators who held onto their tickets like they held onto their stocks until the whole thing crashed,'' he said.

The situation was much the same Monday at Event USA.

``Right now, we're being flooded with people wanting to sell their tickets,'' said Tami Michalkiewicz of the Ashwaubenon agency, adding only about one in 10 callers was looking to buy.

She said Event USA wasn't buying, but there were plenty of tickets for sale, from $165 end-zone seats to $295 seats on the 50-yard line.

Kevin MacLeod said Sunday's loss to the New York Jets did not affect plans for his playoff tickets, but there are other factors to weigh.

``I plan on keeping them, at least until game day,'' said MacLeod, who lives a block away from Lambeau Field. ``I don't know if I'll go or not go. It probably depends on the weather or whether people want them.''

It is expected to be in the low 20s at game time Saturday night.

Josh Anderson, manager of Ticket King in Green Bay, said there were several orders for larger group packages Monday. He said his agency's ratio of potential buyers to potential sellers was about 2-to-1.

``It's good demand,'' he said, adding there are usually a lot of sellers at the onset. ``Of course it would have been better if the Packers wouldn't have lost yesterday. It would have been unbelievable demand if they would have won yesterday.''

Hickey said demand, especially locally, might pick up as the game approaches.

``Right now, you're getting people that are making plans, and they're coming in from out of state. Later in the week, it'll be the local people looking for the sale price.''

Meanwhile, rooms are hard to find in the Green Bay area for those coming in for the game.

The Evangelical Lutheran Free Church of America is holding a meeting with about 1,600 youth members and their leaders.

``It's been booked for a long time, and that's really filled up downtown,'' said Nancy Jones of the Packer Country Regional Tourism Office.
