Flowery Branch to host Amateur BBQ Cook Off and festivities in early May

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

Hall County's Parks and Leisure Department is taking a popular spring outing for amateur Barbecue cooking and is expanding it into a full day of activities.

The Amateur BBQ Cook-Off is Saturday, May 4, at Cherokee Bluffs Park in Flowery Branch.  Special Events and Promotions coordinator Daphney Hicks said this event has now grown from just an Amateur BBQ Cook-Off to a large outdoor event with live music, food trucks, drinks, and a Cornhole Tournament.

There is a $10 fee per car for parking, but there are no “entrance fees.” The cost for participating in the Cornhole Tournament is $20 and can accommodate a max of 25 teams. The registration will be first-come, first-serve from 11 a.m. to noon.

Fly Betty will be performing in the amphitheater at 3 p.m. Food trucks and drinks will be ready at 11 a.m., and winners for the BBQ cook-off will be announced at 6 p.m.

You can contact Daphney Hicks at [email protected] in order to enter the cook-off, become a community taste-testing judge, or register a team for the cornhole tournament.
